The numbers
What the weather here is
Pico Duarte tops 3,000 m — the highest point in the Caribbean — and the Cordillera Central wrings the trades out on its northeast face while leaving a genuine rain shadow in the southwest, where the Enriquillo basin sits below sea level and runs to cactus. The north coast has its wet season in winter, the south in summer, which is unusual enough to catch out anyone forecasting the island as one unit.
Where the official forecast is
This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Dominican Republic comes from ONAMET. During a tropical cyclone the advisory that everything else follows is the National Hurricane Center's.
What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
