An archipelago spread over 800 km of shallow bank with a maximum elevation of 63 m, which makes storm surge the whole of the hazard picture — Dorian sat over Grand Bahama for 40 hours in 2019 and the water, not the wind, is what people remember. The shallow banks warm fast and keep the northern islands convective well into autumn.
