What the weather here is

The coast normally sits under the cold Humboldt current and stays dry; in an El Niño year the warm water arrives around Christmas — which is where the name comes from — and the same coast floods. Quito at 2,850 m on the equator has one of the steadiest climates anywhere, and the Galápagos 900 km offshore are arid for the same reason the mainland coast is.

Where the official forecast is

This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Ecuador comes from INAMHI. During a tropical cyclone the advisory that everything else follows is the National Hurricane Center's.

What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
