What the weather here is

Four thousand kilometres north to south and never more than 350 km wide, which gives Chile the Atacama — where some stations have never recorded rain — at one end and Patagonian ice fields taking 5,000 mm at the other. Santiago in between has a Mediterranean climate and a winter smog problem caused by the same subsidence inversion that keeps it dry. The raco and the coastal camanchaca fog are both local names worth knowing.

Where the official forecast is

This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Chile comes from Dirección Meteorológica de Chile. During a tropical cyclone the advisory that everything else follows is the National Hurricane Center's.

What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
